Second Annual Irishfest Draws Crowd of More Than 400

More than 400 Sanibel residents and guests attended the second annual IrishFest on St. Patrick’s Day in the Bailey’s Center. The Bailey’s Center Merchants’ Association (BCMA) hosted the celebration of the Irish national holiday with traditional food and drink, music, dancing and more.

The event featured several local and well-known acts. The Kellyn Celtic Arts Irish Dance Academy was the first group to perform, and gave lessons after their performance. The BIG ARTS Chorus performed several crowd favorites, including “Blackbird” and “Loch Lomond.” The crowd also enjoyed music from Aislinn Kane (flute) and Carl Nist-Lund (oboe), Canterbury School musicians. Closing out the evening was Art Blatt and the White Caps, who performed a mix of popular Irish songs and Dixieland tunes.

Next year’s event will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011. The BCMA will host its annual 4th of July Backyard BBQ on Sunday, July 4, 2010.
